  • Categorize each of your expenditures and set a monthly budget for each category. Setting a budget doesn't mean going without, it simply means that you you are taking control of your money instead of allowing it to control you. Using a budget allows you to set spending boundaries.

Spend money to make character, but don't spend character to make money.
-Kashif Amin

Property may be destroyed and money may lose its purchasing power; but, character, health, knowledge and good judgment will always be in demand under all conditions.
-Roger Babson

  • Every time you use a credit card, immediately subtract the amount spent from your checkbook and label which credit card you used and what category it was used for. By doing this, you will have the money to write a check for the full amount spent that month when the bill arrives.
  • Try this painless way of saving. At the end of each day put your loose change in a change jar. Every three to six months take the change jar to your bank and deposit it into your savings account. You'll be amazed at how fast you're able to build your savings.
  • Use e-mail or instant messaging as primary ways of communicating with loved ones that live long distances. It is much cheaper then long-distance calls.
  • Copy millionaires and learn their frugal spending habits. Yup, that's right, as hard as it is to believe, millionaires are notorious for being some for the most frugal spenders on the planet. That is how they became millionaires. Read The Millionaire Next Door by Thomas J. Stanley to learn more on the frugal habits of millionaires.
